3 Things To Ask A Roofer When Installing A New Roof

Posted on

When you are thinking about what kind of roof you are going to put on your new house, you need to talk to the roofing contractors to ask some questions before you make your final decision. You need to make sure that you have the best possible information so that you can accurately compare and contrast the different materials. What are some of the things that you should ask the roofing contractors about?

Maintenance

One of the things you need to talk to the contractors about is how much maintenance you are going to have to put into the roof. All roofs are going to need some maintenance to make sure that they are going to last as long as possible. Maintenance can mean things like checking the roof after storms and going up on the roof regularly to make sure that there aren't any holes or loose bits.

Longevity

Another thing that you need to ask the roofing contractors about the various materials you are interested in is how long a roof made out of your chosen material is going to last. Getting a roof is a huge investment, so you want the roof to last as long as possible. So, talk to the contractor and ask them what the average lifespan of the roof is. You also want to ask what the maximum lifespan is. Don't necessarily assume that the roof is going to last the maximum amount of time because you aren't going to have a lot of control over that. What you want to do is assume it will last the average length of time and plan for replacement costs accordingly. If it lasts longer, great. If it's time to replace your roof, you've had plans set up for it, so you should be in good shape.

What They Would Use

Another thing you should ask the roofing contractor is what they would put on their own roof if they were in your place. Not only do you want to ask them what they would use, but you should also ask them why they would use that particular material.

If you are going to get a new roof, you want to make sure that you are getting the best roofing material for your house. Talk to the roofing contractor to get the most information you can about all the different kinds of roofing materials so that you can make the most informed choice.
