3 Signs That Indicate Your Roof Needs To Be Repaired

Posted on

The roof on your home is not something that you typically think about at all until there is an issue. Waiting to pay attention to it after you have had an issue can be a costly mistake though. If your roof isn't in good shape, it can lead to damage inside of your home, in addition to other costly problems for you. This is why you need to pay close attention to your roof and watch out for issues before they become a problem. Read on for some signs to keep an eye out for that may indicate that your roof may need to be repaired.

1. Your Roof Is Warped

If your roof is warped, it may be water damaged and the wood below your shingles may have taken on some damage. If this wood is too damaged, it may have already begun leaking into your attic, which means you may also have damage inside your home already and could have a mold problem. If you notice that your roof appears warped and you no longer have straight lines on your roof, you should have it inspected. This warping may have also been caused by moisture from humidity, which can be just as bad.

2. Your Roofing Shingles Are Shiny

If your roof appears shiny in some places, it could be because the asphalt granules are missing on some of the shingles, and they are no longer protecting your home as they should. Those granules help to protect your roof and the contents of your home, and if that barrier is gone, there isn't much left to protect your house. Shiny spots on your roof mean that some of your shingles may need to be replaced, and it should be inspected to see if there is more damage.

3. Your Roof Looks Wet

If long after it rains your roof still appears wet, it could be because there is water damage that has seeped below the shingles and the moisture is more than likely in the wood on your roof. You need to have your roof inspected both outside of your home and inside. Your roof may not be structurally sound any longer and could need a complete replacement of both shingles and sheeting.

If you notice any of these signs on your roof, it may need to be repaired or replaced. Hire a professional roofer to inspect your roof and to help determine what needs to be done.
